Brian Williams

Managing Partner

Brian is the Managing Partner of AlphaStar and is responsible for the overall performance, growth, and operations of the firm. He focuses on the big picture and long-term vision for AlphaStar’s future. Brian is also the Chief Operating Officer of Financial Independence Group, an industry leading financial and insurance marketing organization.

Brian received his MBA from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He also holds a Bachelor of Technology in Business Technology as well as an AAS in Aviation. He began his career in the higher education sector where he implemented and led a nationally recognized initiative known as the College Foundation of North Carolina. As director, he was responsible for the overall success and strategic direction of the state mandated project which later turned into a national model. He has a wealth of experience in leading large, complex organizations that have high expectations and challenging goals. He understands the power of collaboration and the importance of quality in order to succeed.

Steve Osterink, Jr.

Advisory Alpha Chief Investment Officer

Steve serves as Advisory Alpha’s CIO and brings more than a decade of experience to our team as well as extensive knowledge of personal finance and asset management. Steve and his team are responsible for creating and maintaining a multitude of the portfolio models that AlphaStar offers to Advisors.  He is passionate about educating investors and effectively communicating complex financial matters in a simplified manner.

Steve holds the CFA®, CFP®, and AIF® designations. He is not only the head of the Investment Team, but also the primary author of our Market Review, Portfolio Review, and Investing Insight. He is constantly creating new resources and methods to improve the financial advice delivered to investors as well as helping financial advisors to better serve their clients.

Troy Seiler

Chief Compliance Officer

Mr. Seiler joined AlphaStar in January of 2013 as a compliance associate and was promoted to CCO in August of 2015.  Mr. Seiler has over 10 years of compliance experience and with his comprehensive background provides a great deal of insight into The Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and is responsible overseeing all compliance related matters and for maintaining a “culture of compliance” within the firm. 

He has over 24 years of securities industry experience in the regulatory environment of the SEC and FINRA.  His professional background spans a broad range of trading, operations, and compliance with the companies of UBS Financial Services, Merrill Lynch, and Banc of America Investment Services.  Mr. Seiler received his undergraduate degree from Bloomsburg University.

Kevin Burton

Kevin Burton

Director of Business Development

Kevin serves as the Director of Business Development for AlphaStar Capital Management where he leads both the sales and marketing divisions.  Mr. Burton has close to a decade of financial services experience across multiple focuses from leading operations to serving as a financial advisor.  He spends most of his time recruiting and training new advisors, while developing sales and marketing programs for the current advisors.

Kevin has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a double major in Finance and Risk Management & Insurance from Appalachian State University.  His extensive work in the sales and marketing divisions of various industries serves him well as he continues to promote and encourage the AlphaStar Capital Management value proposition to the client and advisors that we serve.

Brooks Riley

Investment Advisor Consultant

Brooks is a member of AlphaStar's sales & marketing teams where his primary responsibility is overseeing the Pathways new advisor training program. He works to prospect, on-board, and coach newly licensed investment advisors to ensure that they are able to efficiently and properly build a productive advisory business.  He brings 6+ years of sales experience in the investment management industry to the AlphaStar team.

Brooks attended Northeastern University in Boston, MA where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Investments.  He then moved to New York City to begin his career as a financial consultant with a mid-size broker/dealer and investment bank.  After 3 years in New York he moved to the firm’s San Francisco office to head up a program to recruit and mentor new broker trainees as well as manage a book of high net worth clients.  Brooks has since returned to his hometown of Davidson, NC and enjoys playing golf, soccer, and ice hockey in his spare time.

Bob Drury

Bob Drury CFP

Financial Planning Consultant

Bob manages AlphaStar’s Financial Planning Desk and is responsible for supporting advisors by creating comprehensive financial plans based on advisor’s specifications and financial planning software. After constructing a plan, Bob works directly with the advisor to discuss the case, make necessary alterations, and as a point of sale resource for the presentation. Mr. Drury is a resource for enhancing relationships, building confidence, supplying credibility, and ultimately, better servicing clients.

Bob has a Bachelor of Science in Communications, with an International Business minor from Appalachian State University. He obtained the Certified Financial Planner designation in 2008 and has passed the first two levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst curriculum. He has extensive experience in the investment industry including positions at Vanguard as a Financial Planner, on LPL’s bond desk, and as a Research Allocation Analyst with Linden Thomas & Co. Prior to his finance career he worked as a news reporter which further developed his communications skills. These skills have been utilized through a variety of education initiatives on the Financial Planning Desk.

Christi Johnson-Kees

Financial Associate

Mrs. Johnson-Kees is one of the founding members of AlphaStar Capital Management.  She has over 10 years of experience in various aspects of the securities industry including: production, sales, & compliance.  Christi currently oversees Finance & Accounting Department and is responsible for managing the firm’s finances.

Christi, received her degree from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor's degree in Education and a minor in Business with an emphasis in Sports Management.  Upon moving to Charlotte, Christi worked in the banking industry and has held different positions in the securities industry, obtaining her Series 7, 63 and 65.  She also raises awareness and funds for lung cancer and lung cancer research through the 501 (C) organization, Addi’s CureAddi’s Cure was established by Christi and her late husband, Bo Johnson, to continue the fight against lung cancer.

Advisor Services Manager

As the Advisor Services Manager, she is responsible for acting as liaison between the advisors and the custodian.  Her role is to maintain service request, review new business, and ensure completion of transfers in a timely fashion. 

Karen received her Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina.  She is the mother of three daughters Mollie, Mallory, and Melodie. Karen attends Forest Hills church and her happy places are Kiawah Island and Death Valley (Clemson, SC).

Rob Suddreth

Compliance Associate

Rob has been with ACM since August 2016, as a Compliance Associate; providing direct compliance support to the Chief Compliance Officer.  He conducts daily review and approval of advisor compliance requests, oversees internal firm processes, and maintains essential firm documents.

Rob received his Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He began his career in Financial Services as a Client Service Associate with UBS Financial Services. Rob is an avid golfer and loves to travel.

Tarayan Duncan

Compliance Associate

Tarayan holds the role of Compliance Associate with her primary responsibilities being in the advertising sector of compliance. Her emphasis in this area is on advertising review, process, and training.

Tarayan received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Appalachian State University. After graduating, she held several positions relating to human resources. She worked at Financial Independence Group for two years before moving over to the AlphaStar team, where she began as a Relationship Manager with multiple responsibilities from onboarding new advisors to working with the sales team on new initiatives. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family and animals on their farm.

Sean Bandazian

Head Trader

Sean runs AlphaStar's Trading Desk and is responsible for trading client accounts and the maintenance of AlphaStar's portfolio models. He brings 7 years of institutional and retail trading experience to the AlphaStar team.

Sean attended Fordham University in New York City where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. He began his career with a proprietary trading team in New York City, before moving to a mid-size Institutional Broker-Dealer. Prior to joining AlphaStar, Sean held a leadership role on the trading desks of a large independent Broker-Dealer in the Charlotte area, working primarily with the firms rebalancing and block trading software. Over the course of his career he has acquired the Series 7,24,57 and 63 licenses. Sean moved to Charlotte five years ago and currently lives in Uptown with his wife, Jenn, and their dog, Hank.

Ericka Rea

Administrative Assistant

Ericka oversees the administrative operations of the AlphaStar home office. She monitors and maintains all of AlphaStar's social media marketing platforms, liaises with IT to help develop all technology related projects for the firm, and is also responsible for the planning and logistics of AlphaStar's advisor events.

Ericka received her Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Organizational Management from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. While earning her degree, Ericka also worked on campus as a building manager for the university's student union, coordinating and supervising the daily operations of the venue. She spends most of her time with her husband and their new baby girl, Laken.
